Mavado Arrested for Shooting

Dancehall recording artist Mavado was arrested last night and charged with two counts of shooting with intent and one count of illegal possession of firearm in relation to a shooting incident in July last year (2007).

According to the police, Mavado turned himself in. This is not the Dj's first run-in with the law.

In April 2008 (couple weeks ago) Mavado allegedly threatened a member of the local media after a story which he claimed 'dissed' him had been published on the Internet. There was also an allegation that men aligned to Mavado had beaten up a young man affiliated to that website.

Also on September 23 of that year Mavado and a group of men had an altercation with another man during an entertainment event Mannings Hill Road. The man was alleged to have been attacked and injured. The police then went to Cassava Piece, and were in the process of arresting Mavado on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm, when they were blocked by residents.

The Dj turned himself in. Mavado and a policeman clashed at the station resulting in the Dj incurring a second charge of resisting arrest. During the brawl, the deejay almost lost his fingers when three of his fingers were partially severed and subsequently re-attached by a doctor after he had allegedly been pushed through a glass window by a police officer.

Sources confirmed that in January 2007, Mavado was also arrested and charged with possession of ganga.

Mavado will appear in the Gun Court tomorrow.
